Designed by German designer Uwe Bartels and built at the renowned Ta Chaio shipyard in Taiwan, this boat represents a time when craftsmanship and seaworthiness went hand in hand.
Originally developed for long-distance cruising by German Günter Voigt in the 1970s, the boat was designed with one purpose: to provide a safe and comfortable setting for adventures across the oceans. She is built to last, not for racing, but for relaxed and stable sailing with plenty of space and comfort - and with a weight of approximately 12.5 tons loaded, she is safe in the water.

"Pandora" is build number 10 out of only 10 units produced, making her a very rare sight - especially in Danish waters. The boat was purchased in 2011 and has since undergone an extensive renovation. Today, she is extremely well maintained and has been updated with modern navigation equipment and comfort facilities that far exceed the standards of when she was built in 1980.
The following are highlighted:
Sails & Rig
* Mainsail (approx. 35 m²): New Elvstrøm mainsail from 2021 - only sailed 25-30 hours. Equipped with 4 through battens, 2 ropes and Zippack on the boom.
* Headsail (approx. 45 m²): Mounted on furling forestay, older sail cover included.
* Mess sail: Older, but functional, with boom tarpaulin.
* Spars: Approx. 140 m² incl. spinnaker pole.
* Genoa stays: Genoa / intermediate staysail, approx. 100 m².
* Main mast: Height 16 meters.

Renovation and improvements - Pandora 2011 - 2025
These are only relevant repairs and maintenance etc. In relation to the ship's current equipment and the sale of the boat are included here. General maintenance is not included in the list.
2011 - Purchase of Pandora.
- Several inspections, final purchase in Gilleleje and the ship sailed home from Struer to Frederiksværk.
- Recording for winter October 2011
- Started sanding the freeboard in the fall of 2011 (it took 7 months to sand the entire ship)
- 2 large wakes with home - separated, cleaned and lubricated with acid-free grease - must be done every 2-3 years.
- 2 small bilges separated on the boat cleaned with kerosene and lubricated with acid-free grease - must be done every 2-3 years.
2012 - Sanding and painting of freeboard - new sail covers, sprayhood and tent.
- In the spring, the freeboard is fully sanded.
- Epoxy filler on uneven freeboard.
- 6 layers of epoxy - Light primer with roller + sanding
- Covering blue line + sprayed 4 coats of Hempel Poly Best 2K navy blue with a touch of black
- Finishing freeboard + sprayed 4 coats Hempel Poly Best 2K white
- Finished freeboard + blue line on May 25, 2012
- Great result! - Followed Hempel's painting program with technical support along the way from them.
- Installation of brand new sail covers mizzen, lazy bag, sprayhood and tent for the entire boat.
- Disassembling, cleaning and checking all sea valves in the boat. cleaned, lubricated and reassembled.
- Replacement of bronze sea valve for kitchen sink (with the right alloy)
2013 - Renovation of the salon and new Webasto oil boiler and plumbing.
- All woodwork in the salon and pantry (kitchen) fully sanded + 5 coats of Hempel Vanish lacquer (matt lacquer)
- All touch surfaces, grip strips and rounded surfaces given 5 coats of Hempel Glossy (glossy lacquer)
- New Webasto oil boiler 6KW purchased and installed in the boat. Installation of temperature room thermostat in the cabin. New exhaust, intake and wiring harness for Webesto.
- Purchase and installation of a new self priming pump in the sump.
- New mixer taps in both bathrooms.
- Washing down of the entire salon - cabinets, shelves etc. painted with Hempel 1K color oil
- Replacement of fabric on all cushions in the ship 18 cushions in total + impregnated 2 times.
- Purchase and replacement of a completely new cooling system in the pantry cooler. Can now be used as a freezer as well. The refrigeration engineer tested the system and it works perfectly
2014 - New stove and review and renovation of the electrical grid. New engine panel and fuel gauge.
- Renovation of pantry with stainless steel splashback, new mixer tap and new stove with 3 burners, electric start oven with grill and oven light.
- Review of wiring in the ship. 12v and 24v:
3 large black bags with dead wires are taken out of the ship.
Replacement of all wiring on the engine and in the engine room with new tinned marine wiring.
New instrument panel and wiring for Perkins + new tank gauge and cleaning of the tank

- Naming of Pandora at Frederiksværk harbor.
2015 -
- Pilestaat (steering box) dismantled and renovated. painted with 4 layers of Hempel Poly Best 2k.
- The steering pump for hydraulic control sent for renovation at BRDR. Petersen in Gilleleje.
- New throttle and gear lever (Teleflex B80S)
- New cables for teknoflex + the old ones stored as spare
- New inflatable boat /OC Seven Ocean
- Purchase of 2 110ah marine batteries for the consumer side
- Purchase and installation of Ctek 12v pulse charger
2016-
- Renovation of cockpit, painted with 1k + woodwork renovated with various new teak plugs and subsequent cleaning of the woodwork.
"TIP - Do not sand but use chemistry - toilet cleaner, hydrochloric acid and neutralize with soap, then it looks like the pictures.
- Installation of 2 new LED spots in the mass mast and main mast - then there is work light on deck :)
2017-
- New ship radio station - Furuno RO-6800/AIS + certified by the Danish Maritime Authority
- Removal of the old butt supports at the mast
- Replacement of the woodwork around the access hatch, new sliding rails and stainless steel plate.
- Removal of the old Dorado valves + installation of a new electric valve in the aft bedroom
- Old brown peeled Treadmaster peeled off in small mini pieces - hard manual work with a chisel. Took all winter. Sanding of the entire deck, filled with 2k epoxy filler and painted twice with 1k white deck paint.
- Spring 2018 painted the deck + non-slip areas with Kiwigrip non-slip paint
2018 - (the boat remained on land throughout 2018, while the engine was replaced and various major repairs are ongoing)
- The old Perkins 4-108 has served its military service + too much noise, oil and unstable temperature - no more - out with Perkins.
- Renovation of engine compartment. Asbestos plates out, new pro. engine room insulation (an acquaintance who works with sound insulation in ships) installed everywhere. Painting the engine room, checking and painting the diesel tank, new water hoses for cold and hot water installed in the engine room
- Professional full sandblasting of the entire bottom. I am speechless at how nice it is after the sandblasting (zoom in on the pictures) not so much as the slightest unevenness anywhere, it looks like something molded yesterday and is completely smooth throughout the bottom.
- Bisgaard Gilleleje is the consultant on the construction of the bottom. Materials purchased from him. Full filling of the base with epoxy filler + subsequent sanding. Then 8 coats of epoxy primer and 2 coats of sealer and finally 2 coats of bottom paint - the bottom is like new.
- Renovation of the woodwork etc. throughout the aft cabin. Replaced woodwork and panels + pressure impregnated them before assembly. Sanding and 6 coats of varnish on walls, stairs etc.
- Compass renovated with new membrane and compass fluid from Weilback
2019
- Purchase and installation of newer (2006 - 1300 hours on the clock) Yanmar 4JH2E - 50 HP. The blacksmith makes new foundations, the engine is started, runs and pulls like a dream. It has done so all the way until today 2024, fantastic machine. The machine was checked by the mechanic before the purchase where compression, oil pressure etc. were checked everything is as it should be.
- New propeller purchased from Rudes propellers who have calculated the size for the engine. Expected max. speed 8 knots - In normal operation at 1800 rpm 6 - 7 knots.
- Renovation of the floor throughout the ship. I take up the floorboards, remove/replace the brackets and am speechless that the floor is made of 6mm pure teak wood. So there is room for many more sandings on Pandora's floor. 8x varnish on the floor and 10x varnish on the corridors.
- Renovation of leaking hatchway forward, replacing all the woodwork. Renovation of the front cabin at the same time - removal of all woodwork and 6x matt lacquer on the surfaces and 6x clear lacquer on the gripping surfaces.
2020 -
- Purchase of new Plotter B&G Vulcan 7".
- Purchase and installation of a new Nmea2000 system on board Pandora. The system connects plotter with: speed, depth and water temperature, (Airmar st810) + wind sensor wireless B&G, never mounted but prepared so it can just be put on. wind sensor is paired with plotter and works. The VHF radio shows AIS on the plotter, the radio has a transmission license from the Danish Maritime Authority for the ship Pandora. New handheld VHF ICOM M930 with Distress, man overboard function etc. Also approved and dedicated to Pandora by the Danish Maritime Authority.
- There is an independent older AIS transponder that transmits Pandora's data to other ships.
- Self-steering/autopilot Seamaster 800 fitted in 2023 so route on plotter is run automatically on autopilot.
- New Lofrans 1000w 12v windlass, relays etc. fitted.
- New wiring harness for charging front anchor battery.
- DC to DC charger fitted + new isolating relay
- Division into 4 battery circuits: Windlass battery/115Ah, Starter battery/115Ah, Consumable batteries 12v/230Ah and Consumable batteries 24v/140Ah
2021 -
- Installation of a new battery monitor to monitor the 24v consumer batteries
- Thomas from Elvstrøm sails met us on a weekend trip in Hundested where he measured for the new mainsail, which was delivered before the holidays. (The sail has been up less than 50 hours here in 2024 for various reasons & circumstances)
2022 -
- New 10mm smoke colored Lexan glass throughout the cabin 6 pcs.
- New 8mm smoked Lexan glass in the windshield
- Private purchase of Thomas from Elvstrøm sails - new furling headsail + installation of UV edge on the sail.
(The sail will be mounted on the boat in 2025.)
- November 2022 the old bronze sea valves disassembled, checked, lubricated with acid-free grease and reassembled (Remember blue locking paste on nut for sea valve) The bronze sea valves are checked on land every 2 years.
- Purchase of a new wireless wind sensor for the B&G plotter via Nmea2000.
2023 -
- The boat on land for the entire winter 2022-2023. Normally it is in the water during the winter.
- Replacement of the engine seawater valve to new True Design valve.
- Hydraulic steering piston renovated at BRDR. Petersen in Gilleleje
- Installation of Coursmaster 800i, powerful hydraulic autopilot with Neco Marine powerful pro. hydraulic pump that fits the steering piston in the boat. Knowledgeable guidance on size, hydraulic pressure etc. from Andersen & Kristensen skibselektronik in Køge. (They tell me "The pump fits your piston fine, it's a bit on the large side so you won't have problems with it not having enough power")
- The old CQR 20 kg. anchor is replaced with a new Rocna anchor 25 KG.
- Purchase of 80 meters of new 10mm galvanized - calibrated chain + marking for 10 meters and red at stop.
- New water heater - Should fill water on the boat after launching in March ... what is that sound? Water splashing from the stern? - The good old (1980) American water heater had broken down and rotted away completely. Purchase and installation of 850w (does not blow the fuses on the bridge) new 30 liter water heater. run on 220v on shore power and on engine heat when motoring.
- New curtains aft + to the rest of the ship (not hung yet) Room division aft for privacy if the 2 guests do not know each other.
- New molded foam top mattresses on all 5 fixed berths in the ship. Only a few nights have been slept on the mattresses in the aft cabin or the others are unused.
- Dismantling of the entire running rigging from the main mast and mizzen mast.
- Lower sallingshorn from main mast to the blacksmith Birthe in Frederiksværk and got reinforcements welded on (aluminum) great work Birthe.
- Running rig was inspected by Thomas from RIGGERNE where a couple of lower shrouds were replaced. The rest of the rig was approved. When the rigger saw the fittings and wires he said "you have to keep it, they don't make it in that quality anymore"
- Purchase and inspection/service of newer (never been on a boat) Viking 6 person offshore life raft. keeps the inspection until 2026.
- Purchase and installation of Epirp. And had it coded/dedicated to Pandora via the Danish Maritime Authority (the ship's name is on the Epirp).
- Purchase and installation of a complete new gas system - Gas hoses, copper pipes, gas tester and Truemann Gas switch and finally a new stopcock. Truemann works in the way that there is an electronic button down by the stove that switches off the gas bottle up in the gas room on deck.
- Replacement of wiring to the stern lantern.
- Replacing the old electrical fuse box with a new HPFI relay for shore power.
2024 -
- All running ropes and halyards in both masts replaced with new ones.
- New 14mm lifting halyard and block in the masthead.
- Dismantling, cleaning and fastening of the sump pump system.
- Installed fastening of the stove so it can be locked in a horizontal position.
2025 -
- On land in Frederikssund.
- New bottom paint, zinc freeboard polished.
- Purchase and installation of new Airmar DST 810S - speed, depth and water temperature.
(The old DST 810 was burned off)
- Replacement of the old 30 meter anchor chain and 70 meter rope with - 80 meter new 10mm galvanized calibrated anchor chain.
- Purchase and installation of 2 new marine batteries 115Ah for the 24v side.
